Schnitter.
 Ich hab' mein Herz verloren
 Wohl in dem grünen Mai,
 Und Keine will mir sagen,
 Wo's nun geblieben sei.

 Ihr schmucken Dirnen alle,
 Nun Eine hat es doch,
 Und habt ihr's nicht gefunden,
 So liegt's im Grase noch.

Und wenn es liegt im Grase,
 So liegt's auf kühler Streu,
Und wenn ihr mäht die Wiesen,
 So schneidet's nicht entzwei.

Reaper.
 I have lost my heart
 In the green May-time,
And no one wants to tell me
 Where it has ended up.

 You picture-perfect maidens all,
Now one of you must surely have it,
And if you did not find it,
Then it is still lying in the grass.

And if it's lying in the grass,
It is lying in the cool straw,
And when you mow the meadows,
Do not cut it in two.
