Das ist des Weges Wende!
Nun hebt voll Dank die Hände:
Heil uns, wir sind am Thor.
Dahinter ist es helle,
es schimmert auf der Schwelle
Das junge Licht hervor.
Was werden wir ersehen,
Wenn sich die Flügel drehen?
Die immer gleiche Bahn.
Heil uns: Das Ziel gewonnen!
Heil uns: auf's Neu' begonnen!
Der Lauf hebt wieder an.
Es geht von Thor zu Thoren
Und kein Schritt ist verloren,
Geht nur die Liebe mit.
Wohl dem, den sie begleitet,
Glück ist wohin er schreitet,
Und fröhlich jeder Schritt.
Und mag in Nacht und Tagen
Uns böses Schicksal schlagen,
Wir bleiben doch getrost:
Uns ist zu jeder Stunde,
Uns ist für jede Wunde
Ein Balsam zugelost.
Die Liebe lässt auf Erden
Nicht müd' und irre werden
Und keinen einsam stehn.
Auf, Jahr, mit Lust und Schmerzen!
Wir woll'n mit reinem Herzen
Durch deine Pforte gehen!

That is the way the path turns!
Now raise your hands, replete with thanksgiving:
Well for us, we are at the gateway.
Behind it is brightness,
Upon the threshold the young light
Is schimmering forth.
What shall we espy,
When the blades of the turnstile turn?
The pathway, ever the same.
Well for us: the goal has been achieved!
Well for us: we begin anew!
The course begins again.
We pass from gate to gateway
And no step is lost,
If only Love goes along with us.
Well for him, whom Love accompanies,
Good fortune follows him wherever he walks,
And every step is joyful.
And if during night or day
An evil fate strike us,
We nevertheless remain confident:
To us in every hour,
To us for every wound
A balm has been granted.
Love prevents our becoming
Fatigued or lost upon the earth,
And lets no one stand alone.
Arise, year, with joys and pains!
With a pure heart we wish
To enter through your gateway.
