Er schützte mich zu tausend Mahl
Vor Kolben, Schwert und Spießen,
Er dient mir jetzt als Trinkpokal
Und in der Nacht als Kissen.
Vor Lützen traf ihn jüngst ein Speer,
Bin fast in's Gras gesunken,
Ja! wär' er durch, - hätt nimmermehr
Ein Tröpfelchen getrunken.
Doch kam's nicht so. Ich danke dir,
Du brave Bickelhaube!
Der Schwede büßte bald dafür,
Und röchelte im Staube.
Nu, tröst' ihn Gott! Schenkt ein, schenkt ein!
Mein Krug hat tiefe Wunden,
Doch hält er noch den deutschen Wein,
Und soll mir oft noch munden.

que és la copa de l’escuder,
no és pas poc fondo i, sens dubte, no és petit
i satisfà el valent bevedor.
Ell m’ha protegit milers de vegades
de porres, espases i piques,
i ara em serveix de copa per beure
i de nit com a coixí.
A Lützen fou colpejat per una llança
i per poc que caic a l’herba,
a ben cert, si l’hagués travessat,
mai més hauria begut ni una gota.
Però això no s’esdevingué. Jo et dono gràcies
a tu, bon casc de punta!
El suec aviat expià per això
i acabà mossegant la pols.
Bé, alabat sia Déu! Posa’m, posa’m beguda!
La meva gerra té ferides profundes,
però pot encara contenir el vi alemany
i sovint l’haig de degustar encara.
