Der ist des Knappen Becher,
Er ist nicht seicht und, traun, nicht klein,
Das freut den wackern Zecher.

Er schützte mich zu tausend Mahl
Vor Kolben, Schwert und Spießen,
Er dient mir jetzt als Trinkpokal
Und in der Nacht als Kissen.

Vor Lützen traf ihn jüngst ein Speer,
Bin fast in's Gras gesunken,
Ja! wär' er durch, - hätt nimmermehr
Ein Tröpfelchen getrunken.

[Doch 's kam]1 nicht so. Ich danke dir,
Du brave Bickelhaube!
Der Schwede büßte bald dafür,
Und röchelte im Staube.

Nu, tröst' ihn Gott! Schenkt ein, schenkt ein!
Mein Krug hat tiefe Wunden,

Hé ! verse m'en un dans mon casque,
C'est la coupe de l'écuyer,
Il n'est pas peu profond et oui-da, pas petit,
Il réjouit un vaillant buveur.

Il m'a protégé un millier de fois
De crosse, d'épée et de pique,
Il me sert maintenant de coupe à boire
Et pendant la nuit d'oreiller.

À Lützen, récemment, il a été frappé par une lance,
Pour un peu, je serais tombé dans l'herbe,
Oui, s'il était passé à travers, plus jamais,
Je ne boirais une goutte !

Mais cela n'est pas arrivé, je te remercie,
Brave casque à pointe !
Le Suédois expia bientôt pour cela
Et se mit à râler dans la poussière.
