Philint stand jüngst vor Babets Tür
 (Sung text for setting by G. Benda)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT FRE ITA
Philint stand jüngst vor Babets Thür
Und klopft', und rief: Ist niemand hier?
Ich bin Philint! Laßt mich hinein! --
Sie kam, und sprach: Nein, nein!

 ...

Bekümmert wollt' er wieder gehn:
Da hört' er schnell den Schlüssel drehn:
Er hört: Auf einen Augenblick!
Doch geh' auch gleich zurück!

Er seufzt', er bat recht jämmerlich.
Nein! sagte sie, ich fürchte dich;
Es ist schon Nacht, ich bin allein:
Philint, es kann nicht sein!

 ...

Die Nachbarn plagt die Neugier sehr:
Sie warteten der Wiederkehr;
Er kam auch, doch erst Morgens früh.
Ey, ey! wie lachten sie!

Une histoire très ordinaire
 (Sung text translation for setting by G. Benda)
 See original
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Philinte se tenait récemment devant la porte de Babette
Et frappait et appelait : "il n’y a personne ?
C’est Philinte ! Laisse-moi entrer ! "
Elle vint et dit : "Non, non !"

 ...

Attristé il veut passer son chemin,
Mais il entend vite tourner la clé ;
Il entend : " un instant seulement !
Puis tu partiras très vite ! "

Il soupira et redemanda d’une voix bien triste.
"Non", dit-elle, "j’ai peur de toi ;
C'est déjà la nuit, je suis seule :
Philinte, c’est impossible ! "

 ...

La curiosité tourmenta beaucoup les voisins :
Ils attendaient son départ ;
Il partit d’ailleurs, mais de bon matin.
Eh, eh ! Comme ils riaient!

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1,3,2,4 of the original text.
