Aus des Meeres tiefem, tiefem Grunde
Klingen Abendglocken, dumpf und matt,
Uns zu geben wunderbare Kunde
Von der schönen alten Wunderstadt.

In der Fluten Schoos hinabgesunken,
Blieben ihre Trümmer unten stehn.
Ihre Zinnen lassen goldne Funken
Wiederscheinend auf dem Spiegel sehn.

Und der Schiffer, der den Zauberschimmer
Einmal sah im hellen Abendroth,
Nach derselben Stelle schifft er immer,
Ob auch rings umher die Klippe droht.

Aus des Herzens tiefem, tiefem Grunde
Klingt es mir wie Glocken, dumpf und matt;
Ach, sie geben wunderbare Kunde
Von der Liebe, die geliebt es hat.

Eine schöne Welt ist da versunken,
Ihre Trümmer blieben unten stehn,
Lassen sich als goldne Himmelsfunken
Oft im Spiegel meiner Träume sehn.

Und dann möcht' ich tauchen in die Tiefen,
Mich versenken in den Widerschein,
Und mir ist, als ob mich Engel riefen
In die alte Wunderstadt herein.

Note: Vineta is the name of a legendary sunken city located somewhere between Pommerania and Rügen.

Desde el fondo más profundo del mar
suenan campanas vespertinas, débiles y apagadas,
para traernos el maravilloso mensaje
de la bella y antigua ciudad encantada.

Sumergidas en el seno de las aguas,
abajo quedaron sus ruinas.
Sus almenas envían dorados destellos 
que se reflejan sobre el espejo.

Y el barquero que vio una vez
el mágico rielar durante el claro atardecer,
al mismo lugar vuelve siempre 
aunque alrededor amenace el arrecife. 

Desde el fondo más profundo del corazón
me llegan tañidos como de campanas, débiles y apagados.
Ah, me envían mensajes maravillosos 
del amor que él ha amado.

Un bello mundo se hundió ahí,
abajo se quedaron sus ruinas que,
a menudo, dejan verse cual dorados destellos celestes
en el espejo de mis sueño.

Entonces quisiera zambullirme en las profundidades, 
sumergirme en el mágico resplandor.
Y siento como si unos ángeles me llamaran
hacia la antigua ciudad encantada.
