Das freut euch Guten; freuet euch!
Dies alles ist dem Todten gleich.

Doch nein, - denn eure Liebe spannt
Die Aeste in das Geisterland:
Und die euch führt zu meinem Grab,

en complet silenci, sense creu ni làpida;
car tot el que amuntegueu, a l’hivern,
ho cobrirà la neu i s’ho emportarà el vent.

I quan la terra es rejoveneixi
i surtin flors a la meva tomba,
alegreu-vos, bona gent, alegreu-vos!
Això als morts tant els hi fa.

Però no, car el vostre amor estén
les seves branques vers el reialme dels esperits,
i el que us mena a la meva tomba,
a mi m’arrossega amb més força cap a baix.
