Lore im Nachen

Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf dem ruhenden See
Schimmert's im Abendgolde : --
Das ist die Wasserfee,
Die Schilfnixe, die holde.
Tief verborgen im Rohr,
Lüftet sie ihren Schleier,
Breitet den wallenden Flor
Über ihren Schützling, den Weiher.
Hat ihn so wohl verhüllt,
Daß er mit bangem Wehe
Nicht das scheidende Bild
Seiner Geliebten sehe, ihr Bild nicht sehe!!
Composition:
Set to music by Hans Sommer (1837 - 1922), "Lore im Nachen", op. 13 no. 1, published 1891 [ voice and piano or orchestra ], from Lorelei. Ein Bühnenspiel, no. 1, Leipzig, (Leede)

Upon the resting lake
There is a shimmering in the evening gold: --
That is the water fairy,
The nixie of the reeds, the lovely one.
Well concealed in the rushes,
She raises her veil,
Spreads the undulating gauze
Over her protégé, the pond.
She has enshrouded him so well
That, with anxious woe,
He may not see the departing image
Of his beloved!
may not see her image!
