Januar. Schneekampf
 (Sung text for setting by H. Schletterer)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Laut rauscht der Wind, der Unheilkünder,
Durchs weiße wirbelnde Gewirr;
Des Waldes welke Zweige brechen,
Der Berghirsch flüchtet, pfadesirr.

Und würgend tragen Nordlandstürme
Nur Schnee herbei und neuen Schnee,
Der steigt und steigt -- in langen Nächten;
Bis in den Felsgrund dringt dies Weh!

Dann endlich, endlich blaut es wieder,
Schneeblendend glänzt der Berge Pracht!
Doch regt kein Leben mehr die Glieder,
Kein Laut erklingt -- Es ist vollbracht!
