Banges Herz, wie kannst dus fassen? Brich nur!
  Schmilz in Thränen hin! denn dein ist,
     Dein ist die Erwählte!
 
O, ich sink in Staub vor Dir, Du Geber!
Alle Thränen hast du weggetrocknet!
  Freuden hast Du mir erschaffen.
     Ewig, wie mein Herz liebt!
 
Rein und heilig ist die Auserwählte!
Mach, o Gott, mein Herz, wie sie, so heilig!
  Daß ich werth sey dieses Kleinods,
     Das vor allen schimmert!
 
O, Du Heilige! Sieh an dieß Streben,
Das, Dir gleich zu werden, hoch mein Herz hebt!
  Sieh es an! Und wenn ich strauchle,
     Heb mich durch Dein Lächeln!
 
Keine Kron' hätt ich  für Dich genommen!
Tausend Kronen legt' ich Dir zu Füßen!

Mine, oh mine, is the angel of God!
Anxious heart, how can you comprehend it?  Only break!
  Dissolve in tears! for yours is,
     Yours is the chosen one!"
 
Oh, I sink into the dust before Thee, Thou Giver!
All my tears hast Thou dried!
  Thou hast created joys for me.
     Eternal joys, as my heart loves!
 
Pure and holy is the chosen one! - -
Make, oh God, my heart as holy as she is!
  That I might be worthy of this treasure
     That shimmers more gloriously than all the rest!
 
Oh, you holy one! Look upon this striving
That, in order to be like you, lifts high my heart!
  Look upon it! And when I falter
     Life me up through your smiles!
 
No crown would I have taken in exchange for you!
I would place a thousand crowns at your feet!
  Angel, see, I weep for joy
     That you are mine forever!
