Dass ich Dich liebe See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations: ENG
Daß ich Dich liebe, schafft mir Pein,
Vergebens wünsch' ich's Dir zu klagen!
Die Quelle springt murmelnd aus dem Stein,
Das volle Herz weiß nichts zu sagen.
Jed' Vöglein singt sein Liedchen aus
Und Liebe tönt von allen Zweigen;
Die meine drückt kein Wörtlein aus,
Ich kann nur lieben Dich und schweigen.

Note: the poem occurs twice in the story, and the first time, a character is reading it from an old calendar, so it may be a ditty that was popular at the time of publication, or it may be by Schweichel himself.
