Du bist mein Traum
(Sung text for setting by H. Langer)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Die Herzen ruhn, die Blumen schlafen
  Fromm in der sel'gen Sternennacht.
In meines Herzens stillem Hafen
  Hält treue Liebe rastlos Wacht.
Dir möcht' ich es so gerne klagen,
Was mich so froh, so elend macht,
Und dir's in deinen Schlummer sagen:
"Du bist mein Traum in stiller Nacht!"

Du ahnest nicht mein treues Lieben
Um dich, du holde, süße Maid.
Ist mir auf Erden nichts geblieben,
  Bist du doch meine Seligkeit.
Neigst du auch nicht dein Haupt hernieder
  In seiner Locken hellen Pracht,
Dir tönet fort das Lied der Lieder:
"Du bist mein Traum in stiller Nacht!"

 ...

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2 of the original text.

You are my dream
(Sung text translation for setting by H. Langer)
 See original
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Hearts rest, the flowers sleep
Devoutly in the blessed night of stars.
In the quiet harbour of my heart
Faithful love keeps watch without resting.
I would so dearly love to lament to you
That which makes me so happy, so miserable,
And to say it to you in your slumber:
"You are my dream in the quiet night!"

You do not sense my faithful love hovering
Around you, you lovely, sweet maiden.
If nothing else remains to me upon earth
  You are nevertheless my bliss.
Though you do not incline your head
In the splendour of its bright curls,
For you continues to sound the song of songs:
"You are my dream in the quiet night!"

 ...

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2 of the original text.

Translations of title(s):
"Abend-Ständchen" = "Evening serenade"
"Du bist mein Traum" = "You are my dream"
"Du bist mein Traum in stiller Nacht" = "You are my dream in the quiet night"
"Ständchen" = "Serenade"
