Der Schall ins Ohr mir sacht,
       Schlafet in Ruh, schlafet in Ruh!

       Die Liebe Gottes deckt euch zu

Nu begint het al te schemeren,
de herder-maan ontwaakt 
en zingt zijn wolkenlammetjes
een welterusten toe.
En als hij zo stilletjes zingt,
dringt vanuit de sterrenkring
het geluid zachtjes tot mij door.
Slaap in vrede, slaap in vrede!
Voorbij is de dag en zijn rumoer,
Gods liefde dekt jullie toe
waar je ook bent.

Goede nacht dus, al gij vermoeiden,
geliefden dichtbij en ver weg,
nu rust ook ik in vrede,
tot de morgenster opglanst.
Alleen de nachtegaal
zingt nog in het maanlicht
en looft God de Heer.
