Gute Nacht!
Allen Müden sei's gebracht.
Neigt der Tag sich still zu Ende,
Ruhen alle fleiß'gen Hände,
Bis der Morgen neu erwacht.
Gute Nacht!
Geht zur Ruh!
Schließt die müden Augen zu.
Stiller wird es auf den Straßen,
Und den Wächter hört man blasen,
Und die Nacht ruft allen zu:
Geht zur Ruh!
...
Gute Nacht!
Schlummert, bis der Tag erwacht
Schlummert, bis der neue Morgen
Kommt mit seinen neuen Sorgen,
Ohne Furcht, der Vater wacht.
Gute Nacht!

Good night!
To those who are weary, it comes
As the day quietly nods to an end.
Hard-working hands take their rest
Until newly waking at morning,
Good night!
Take your rest!
Close those drowsy eyes.
The city streets grow quiet,
And you can hear the watchman’s horn,
And Night beckons to all:
Take your rest!
...
Good night!
Slumber, until day reawakens
Slumber, until the new morning
Arrives with its own fresh troubles,
Without fear, as the Father keeps watch.
Good night!
