Daß ein Strom, so heiß,
Im Winter wird
Zu starrem Eis!

Daß ein Ringlein von Gold,
So das Fingerlein schmückt,
Wie ein Mühlstein schwer
Auf die Seele drückt!

Daß nach prangendem Tag
So stürmisch die Nacht,
So krank das Herz! --
Hätt es nimmer gedacht, hätts nimmer gedacht, nie gedacht!
