Lau war die Dämmrung, traulicher scherzten wir
Mit nachgeahmter Fröhlichkeit. Bald verstummt
In holdem Tiefsinn, saß das Mägdlein,
flüsterte wollen wir gehn? und ging nicht.

Nous voyons des nuages du soir disparaître,
Nous attendons le lever de la pleine lune
Et le chant de Philomèle dans les buissons de la vallée.
Doux était le crépuscule, nous plaisantions familièrement,
Avec une gaieté feinte, mais bientôt nous nous tûmes,
Plongée dans des pensées d'amour, la jeune fille s'assit,
Et nous chuchotâmes, irons-nous ? mais ne partîmes pas.
