Im Wald, im hellen Sonnenschein
Wenn alle Knospen springen,
Da mag ich gerne mittendrein
Eins singen.

Wie mir zu Muth in Leid und Lust,
Im Wachen und im Träumen,
Das stimm' ich an aus voller Brust
Den Bäumen.

Und sie verstehen mich gar fein,
Die Blätter alle lauschen,
Und fall'n am rechten Orte ein,
Mit Rauschen.

Und weiter wandelt Schall und Hall,
In Wipfeln, Fels und Büschen.
Hell schmettert auch Frau Nachtigall
Dazwischen.

Da fühlt die Brust am eignen Klang,
Sie darf sich was erkühnen --
O frische Lust: Gesang! Gesang
Im Grünen!

Und sie verstehen mich gar fein,
Die Blätter alle lauschen,

Al bosc, a la claror del sol,
quan es desclouen totes les poncelles,
llavors em plau, al mig d’elles,
de cantar una cançó.

Segons el meu humor, en la pena o l’alegria,
despert o en somnis,
entono a plens pulmons
per als arbres.

I ells m’entenen perfectament,
les fulles totes escolten
i fan l’entrada en el lloc precís
amb la seva remor.

I el ressò avança més lluny
vers els cims, les roques i els matolls.
Vivaç, el senyor rossinyol també canta amb braó,
entremig.

Llavors el cor sent el seu propi so
i pot gosar qualsevol cosa,
oh aire fresc, cantar, cantar
en la verdor. 

I ells m’entenen perfectament,
les fulles totes escolten
i fan l’entrada en el lloc precís
amb la seva remor.
