Wenn ich die Blümlein schau',
Wünsch' ich mir eine Frau;
     Selten blüht eins allein,
     Muß bei dem andern seyn.
Blum' in der Au
Hat eine Frau.

Wenn ich die Vöglein schau',
Wünsch' ich mir eine Frau;
     Schnäbeln herzinniglich
     Auf jedem Bäumchen sich.
Vöglein im Bau 
Hat eine Frau.

Wenn ich die Fischlein schau',
Wünsch' ich mir eine Frau;
     Schwimmen im Silberbach
     Eines dem andern nach.
Fischelein grau
Hat eine Frau.

Rundum wohin ich schau'
Überall Mann und Frau,
     Theilen so Schmerz als Lust,
     Sich ihres Ziels bewußt,
Wird mir wohl flau,
Möcht' eine Frau.

Wenn ich die Frauen schau',
Wünsch' ich mir keine Frau;
     Gleichen nicht Blümelein, 
     Könnten ganz anders seyn.
Geh' nicht zur Trau',
Mag keine Frau!

Als ik een bloem aanschouw,
Wens ik mijzelf een vrouw:
Nooit haast bloeit zij alleen,
Steeds staan er meer omheen.
‘n Bloem, rood of blauw,
Heeft steeds een vrouw.

Als vogels ik aanschouw,
Wens ik mezelf een vrouw;
Kopjes geeft ieder stel
In ieder boompje wel.
Vogeltjes trouw
Hebben een vrouw.

Als visjes ik aanschouw,
Wens ik ook zelf een vrouw;
Waar ik ze gadesla,
Zwemmen z’ elkander na.
Elk visje, nou,
Heeft wel een vrouw.

Waar ik maar rond mij schouw,
Overal man en vrouw,
Delen plezier en pijn,
Vinden zo ’t leven fijn,
Ik val haast flauw,
‘k Wil ook een vrouw.

Als vrouwen ik aanschouw,
Wens ik mij toch geen vrouw;
Zijn slechts een bloem in schijn,,
Konden heel anders zijn,
Denk niet dat ‘k trouw,
‘k Hou van geen vrouw!
