from Volkslieder (Folksongs)
Translation by Therese Albertine Luise von Jacob (1797 - 1870), as Talvj

Дјевојка ружици
Language: Serbian (Српски)
Ах! моја водо студена!
И моја ружо румена!
Што с' тако рано процвала?
Немам те коме тргати:
Ако б' те мајци тргала,
У мене мајке не има;
Ако б' те шеји тргала,
Сеја се моја удала;
Ако б' те брату тргала,
Брат ми је ош'о на војску;
Ако б' те драгом тргала,
Драги је од мен' далеко:
Преко три горе зелене,
Преко три воде студене.

Mädchen und Rose
 (Sung text for setting by C. Loewe)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Serbian (Српски)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Ach! mein kühler Wasserquell!
Ach! meine Rose, rosenroth!
Was doch blühtest so früh du auf,
Sollt' ich dich brechen, o Rose mein?
Habe keinen, dem ich gäbe dich!!
Pflückt' ich dich für mein Mütterlein:
Mütterlein ruht im Grabe tief!
Bräch' ich dich für die Schwester gern:
Schwester gieng mit dem fremden Gemahl!
Bräch' ich dich für den Bruder wohl:
Fort in den Krieg der Bruder zog!
Bräch' ich dich, ach! für meinen Freund:
Ach! der Freund ist weit und fern!
Über drei grüne Gebirge, weit!
Über drei kühle Gewässer, breit!
