Es locket und zwitschert von Haus zu Haus,
Die Schwalben, die lustigen, wandern aus.

Sie fliegen nach Süden, wo's Herz erwarmt
Und ewiger Frühling die Erde umarmt.

In einem verlassenen Neste klein
Liegt noch ein todtes Vögelein.

Es mußte sterben der Hoffnung so nah,
Eh' es die träumenden Palmen sah.
