Wer hat die schönsten Schäfchen?
Die hat der gold'ne Mond,
Der hinter jenen Bäumen
Am Himmel droben wohnt.

Er kommt am späten Abend,
Wenn alles schlafen will,
Hervor aus seinem Hause
Zum Himmel leis' und still.

Dann weidet er die Schäfchen
Auf seiner blauen Flur,
Denn all' die weißen Sterne
Sind seine Schäfchen nur.

Sie tun uns nichts zu Leide
Hat eins das and're gern,
Und Schwestern sind und Brüder
Da droben Stern an Stern.

Und soll ich dir ein's bringen,
So darfst du niemals schrei'n,
Mußt freundlich wie die Schäfchen
Und wie ihr Schäfer sein.

Qui a les plus beaux agneaux ?
C'est la lune d'or qui les a.
Celle qui habite derrière ces arbres,
Là-haut dans le ciel.

Elle vient tard le soir,
Quand tout veut dormir.
Elle sort de sa maison
Dans le ciel, douce et calme.

Puis elle fait paître les agneaux
Sur ses terres bleues.
Car toutes les étoiles blanches
Ne sont que ses agneaux.

Ils ne nous font pas de mal,
Chacun aime l'autre,
Elles sont frères et sœurs
Toutes ces étoiles là-haut.

Et si je dois t'en amener un,
Alors tu ne devras jamais pleurer,
Tu devras être aimable comme les agneaux
Et comme leur berger.
