An der weißgetünchten Wand
Steht der schwarze Koffer mit den Manuskripten.
Drüben steht das Rauchzeug mit dem kupf'rnen Aschenbecher 
Die chinesische Leinwand, zeigend den Zweifler
Hängt darüber. Auch die Masken sind da, und neben der Bettstelle
Steht der kleine sechslampige Lautsprecher.
In der Frühe
Drehe ich den Schalter um und höre
Die Siegesmeldungen meiner Feinde.

Stands the black suitcase containing the manuscripts.
Over there stand the smoking materials with the copper ashtray
The Chinese painting, showing the doubter
Hangs above.  The masks are there, too, and beside the bed
Stands the little speaker with six tubes.
Early in the morning
I turn the switch and hear
The victory announcements of my enemies.
