Süßer Freund, du blickest
 (Sung text for setting by R. Schumann)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT CHI DAN DUT ENG ENG FRE HEB IRI ITA NOR RUS
Süßer Freund, du blickest
  Mich verwundert an,
Kannst es nicht begreifen,
  Wie ich weinen kann;
Laß der feuchten Perlen
  Ungewohnte Zier
Freudig hell erzittern
In dem Auge mir.

Wie so bang mein Busen,
  Wie so wonnevoll!
Wüßt' ich nur mit Worten,
  Wie ich's sagen soll;
Komm und birg dein Antlitz
  Hier an meiner Brust,
Will in's Ohr dir flüstern
  Alle meine Lust.

 ...

Weißt du nun die Thränen,
  Die ich weinen kann?
Sollst du nicht sie sehen,
  Du geliebter Mann;
Bleib' an meinem Herzen,
  Fühle dessen Schlag,
Daß ich fest und fester
  Nur dich drücken mag.

Hier an meinem Bette
  Hat die Wiege Raum,
Wo sie still verberge
  Meinen holden Traum;
Kommen wird der Morgen,
  Wo der Traum erwacht,
Und daraus dein Bildniß
  Mir entgegen lacht.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,4-5 of the original text.

Modernized spelling would change "Thränen" to "Tränen" and "Bildniß" to "Bildnis".

Lieve vriend, wat kijk je
 (Sung text translation for setting by R. Schumann)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Lieve vriend, wat kijk je
Mij verwonderd aan;
Kunt maar niet begrijpen
Hoe ik schreien kan.
Laat die natte parels
-- ongewone sier --
Blij en licht maar beven
In mijn ogen hier.

O, hoe bang mijn hart is,
Hoe vol vreugdegloed!
Wist ik maar met woorden
Hoe 'k het zeggen moet;
Kom en leg je hoofd maar
Zacht hier aan mijn borst,
'k Zal in 't oor je fluist'ren
Wat 'k niet hopen dorst.

 ...

Snap je nu de tranen
Die ik schreien kan?
Moet jij die niet zien dan,
Jij geliefde man?
Blijf dicht aan mijn hart, ja,
Voel maar hoe het slaat,
Dat ik jou goed vasthoud
En nooit los meer laat.

Hier vlak naast mijn bedrand
Krijgt de wieg haar troon.
Zij moet stil verbergen
Straks mijn lieve droom;
Komen zal de morgen
Waar mijn droom op wacht,
Droom waaruit jouw beelt'nis
Lief mij tegenlacht.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,4-5 of the original text.

Notes:
Stanza 4, after line 8, Schumann's repetitions would require adding "Jou goed vasthoud!"
Stanza 5, line 6: Eigenlijk: waarin mijn droom ontwaakt
Stanza 5, after line 8: Schumann's repetitions would require adding "Jouw beelt'nis."
