der lig et vemodslort Drømmeland
af Soldis løfter sig høit og vinker
saa duftblaat i Horizontens Rand, -

da Solen skinned hver Stund paa Dagen,
og Maanen lyste i Natten ned, —
det var engang i de fjærne Tider,
at hun var Dagen og Natten med.

Jeg husker Dagenes hvide Følge,
den dybe Himmel og Byen selv
i Klynger spredt langs den blanke Flade
som døsed guldmat hver Sommerkvæld.

Jeg husker Nætternes lyse Hoitid,
naar hed jeg i Graad og Bon, -
o, stolt Gulnare af Drømmelandet,
hvor var du sælsom og bleg og skjøn.

un pays de rêves, un lieu mélancolique
où montaient du sol des vapeurs bleutées
à la lisière de l'horizon,

là le soleil brillait à chaque heure du jour,
et la lune éclairait la terre  pendant la nuit.
C'était dans les temps anciens,
elle était avec moi le jour et la nuit.

Je me rappelle la blanche suite des jours,
le ciel profond et même la ville,
les rangées de maisons au long de la plaine luisante,
comme ensommeillées dans l'or de chaque soir d'été.

Je me rappelle les heures claires de fête de nuit
quand l'âme tourmentée,¹ en pleurs et en prière,
ô fière Gulnare du pays des rêves,
comme tu étais étrange et pâle et belle !
