Frühlingsmorgen
See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn die Lämmer wieder springen,
Lerchen jubeln, Rosen glühn,
Muß das kränkste Herze singen
Und im Welken noch erblühn.
Wer in bangen Lebensschmerzen
Einsam jetzt die Straße flieht,
Singet selbst aus düstrem Herzen,
Wie ein Lied aus Wolken zieht.
Wer verbannt, das Aug' in Tränen,
Jetzt im fremden Lande zieht,
Durch betaute Blumen tönen
Läßt er jetzt der Heimat Lied.
Flüsse, Saaten, tönend wallen;
Aus dem fernsten Himmelsblau
Weht ein Singen, lieblich Schallen,
Über Wald und helle Au.
Alter Gram, nun zeuch von hinnen,
Fülle nicht dies Herze bang!
Strömet ein von Himmelszinnen
Morgenrot und Lustgesang.
Composition:
Set to music by (Joseph) Joachim Raff (1822 - 1882), "Frühlingsmorgen", op. 114 no. 2, published 1865 [ duet for 2 sopranos with piano ]

When the lambs gambol again,
Larks rejoice, roses glow,
The sickest heart must sing
And bloom even in wilting.
Who in anxious pains of life
Now flees the street alone,
Sings even from a sombre heart
As a song comes forth from clouds.
Who in exile, with eyes full of tears,
Now travels in foreign lands,
He now lets the song of his homeland
Ring out through bedewed flowers.
Rivers, freshly sown fields, resoundingly surge;
From the most distant blue of heaven
Wafts a singing, lovely ringing,
Over forest and bright meadow.
Old grief, now go away from here,
Do not anxiously fill this heart!
May into my heart from the parapets of heaven
Sunrise and songs of joy stream in.
