Sonnenleuchten

Sonne, scheine mir ins Herz hinein,
Wind, verweh mir Sorgen und Beschwerden!
Tiefere Wonne weiß ich nicht auf Erden,
Als im Weiten unterwegs zu sein.
Nach der Ebene nehm ich meinen Lauf,
Sonne soll mich sengen, Meer mich kühlen;
Unsrer Erde Leben mitzufühlen,
Tu ich alle Sinne festlich auf.
Und so soll mir jeder neue Tag
Neue Freunde, neue Brüder weisen,
Bis ich leidlos alle Kräfte preisen,
Aller Sterne Gast und Freund sein mag.

Sun, shine into my heart,
Wind, carry away my anxieties and afflictions!
I know of no deeper bliss upon earth
Than to be underway in the wide expanses.
I take my path toward the flatlands,
The sun is to singe me, the sea cool me;
Ceremoniously I open all my senses
To share in feeling the life of our earth.
And thus every new day shall show me
New friends, new brethren,
Until, without sorrow, I praise all powers,
And may be the guest and friend of all stars.
