Der Tag tut frische Augen auf,
Tautrunken glänzt die Welt
Dem jungen Licht entgegen,
Das golden sie umfangen hält.

Im Walde bin ich unterwegs
Und halte fleißig Schritt
Mit dem geschwinden Morgen,
Der nimmt mich als ein Bruder mit.

Den Mittag seh ich heiß und schwer
Im gelben Kornfeld stehn,
Er sieht mich ohne Weile
Vorüber und landeinwärts gehn.

Und wenn der stille Abend kommt,
Will ich am Ziele sein,
Will wie der Tag verglühen,
Geliebteste, am Herzen dein.
