Es war ein herzigs Veilchen.

Ach! denkt das Veilchen, wär ich nur
Die schönste Blume der Natur,

Bis mich das Liebchen abgepflückt
Und an dem Busen matt gedrückt!
Ach nur, ach nur
Ein Viertelstündchen lang!

Ach! aber ach! das Mädchen kam
Und nicht in Acht das Veilchen nahm,

Violen stod ved Bækkens Bred,
Af Ingen kjendt, og bøiet ned,
En venlig lille Blomme.
Hyrdinden gik med Rosenkind,
Med lette Fjed og muntert Sind,
Sin Gang, sin Gang
Ad Marken hen, og sang.

"Ak, var jeg", tænkte smaa Viol,
"Det bedste Blomster under Sol
Et Øieblik, ei mere,
Til Plgens hvide Haand mig brod,
Og jeg paa Brystet fandt min Død!
Ak kun, ak kun, -
En flygtig lille Stund!"

Ak, see! da tog hun hid sin Vei,
Men tog i Agt Violen ei,
Den stakkels Blomst hun knuste.
Den synker, døer, men døer med Lyst:
"thi skal jeg døe, saa er min Trøst:
Min Død, min Død
Ved hendes Fod er sød."
