Het viooltje

'n Viooltje stond eens in de wei,
In zich gekeerd en simpel blij;
Het was een lief viooltje.
Daar kwam een jonge herderin
Met lichte tred en goede zin.
Zij kwam, zij kwam
Het weitje langs en zong.
 
Ach, denkt Viooltje, was ik puur
De mooiste bloem in de natuur,
Ach, voor een heel kort poosje,
Tot mij het schatje afgeplukt
En aan haar boezem had gedrukt!
Ach slechts, ach slechts
Een klein kwartiertje lang.
 
Maar ach, helaas, het meisje kwam
En niet in 't oog zij 't bloempje nam,
Zij trad op 't arm viooltje.
Het zonk en stierf en dacht blij nog:
Al sterf ik dan, dan sterf ik toch
Door haar, door haar,
Onder haar voeten toch.
