Der laute Tag ist fortgezogen
Es kommt die stille Nacht herauf
Und an dem weiten Himmelsbogen
Da gehen tausend Sterne auf
Und wo sich Erd' und Himmel einen
In einem lichten Nebelland
Hebt an der helle Mond zu scheinen
Mit mildem Glanz ins dunkle Land.
Da geht durch alle Welt ein Grüßen
Und schwebet hin von Land zu Land
Das ist ein leises Liebesküssen
Das Herz dem Herzen zugewandt

Und durch den Himmel geht ein trautes Winken
Und auf der Erde nah und fern
Die Ströme heben an zu blinken
Und Stern verkündet es dem Stern.
O Nacht, wo solche Geister wallen
