Weep you no more

Weep you no more, sad fountains;
What need you flow so fast?
Look how the snowy mountains
Heaven's sun doth gently waste!
But my sun's heavenly eyes
View not your weeping,
That now lies sleeping,
Softly now, softly lies
Sleeping.
Sleep is a reconciling,
A rest that peace begets;
Doth not the sun rise smiling
When fair at eve he sets?
Rest you, then, rest, sad eyes!
Melt not in weeping,
While she lies sleeping,
Softly now, softly lies
Sleeping.

Weint nicht mehr, traurige Brunnen
wozu so reich strömen?
Sieh' wie die Schneeberge
des Himmels Sonne freundlich taut!
Doch meiner Sonne himmlische Augen
sehen Euer Weinen nicht,
das schlafend nun daliegt
still nun und sanft liegt
schlafend.
Schlaf ist ein Versöhner
eine Ruh', die Frieden zeugt.
Geht nicht die Sonne lächelnd auf,
wenn heiter und schön er sofort begann?
Ruht also, ruht, Augen voll Traurigkeit
Löst euch nicht auf in Tränen,
Während sie nun schlafend liegt,
sanft und still liegt
schlafend.
