Von dem Berge zu den Hügeln,
Niederab das Tal entlang,
Da bewegt sichs wie von Flügeln,
Da erklingt es wie Gesang;
Und dem unbedingten Triebe
Folget Freude, folget Rat,
Und dein Streben, sei's in Liebe!
Und dein Leben sei die Tat.

Bleibe nicht am Boden heften,
Frisch gewagt und frisch hinaus!
Kopf und Arm mit heitern Kräften,
Überall sind wir zu Haus;
Wo wir uns der Sonne freuen,
Sind wir alle Sorgen los,
Daß wir uns in ihr zerstreuen,
Darum ist die Welt so groß.

Van de bergen naar de heuvels
- Heel het dal door gaat hun gang, -
Daar weerklinkt er iets als vleugels,
Daar beweegt iets als gezang;
En de onweerstaanb’re aandrift
Brengt ons vreugd en brengt ons raad,
Doe met liefde wat je nastreeft,
En je leven zij de daad.

Blijf naar oude grond niet smachten:
Vat toch moed en ga op reis!!
Hoofd en arm vol kwieke krachten,
Overal toch ben je thuis;
Waar de zon ons wil verblijden
Zijn wij vrij van zorg en nood;
Om in ’t licht ons te verspreiden,
Daarvoor is de wereld groot.
