Der Mai
 (Sung text for setting by C. Neefe)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
 ...

Glücklich ist der Hirt,
Der im May die Welt erblickte,
Wann die Rose die Knospe durchbricht:
Seine Kindheit hauchte Freude,
Freude düftet sein Alter dereinst.

Glücklich ist der Hirt,
Der im May die Hirtin liebet,
Wann der Weinstock die Pappel umarmt;
Seine Jugend liebt sie zärtlich,
Zärtlich liebt sie sein Alter dereinst.

Ihr Kinder des Mayen,
Lobsinget dem May!
Sein Einfluss beseligt die ganze Natur.
