An den Menschen
(Sung text for setting by H. Zilcher)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Freue dich, denn dich zu freuen,
Menschenkind, ist dein Beruf!
Freue dich! Du sollst dich freuen!
Das will der, der dich erschuf!

Über dir am blauen Himmel
siehst du seine Sternensaat!
Voll von fröhlichem Gewimmel
siehst du seinen ganzen Staat!

Zu des Schöpfers höchstem Ruhme
blieb kein freudenleerer Raum.
Freue dich! ruft dir die Blume,
freue dich! Ruft dir der Baum!

Freue dich! singt mir die Lerche,
singt's in Lüften über dir!
Freude klappern mir die Störche,
Freude summt die Biene mir!

Freude ruft dich! Hör', o höre,
ruft dich in begrüntes Feld!
Ach! Wenn nicht die Freude wär,
was denn wär's in dieser Welt? Freue dich!
