Beruhigung
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  FRE
Wo [des Mondes bleicher Schimmer]1
  Durch der Kiefern Dunkel blickt;
Wo um wildes Felsgetrümmer
  Sich die Efeuranke strickt;
Wo des Nebels Todtenschleier
  Sich um Herbstgesträuche dehnt;
Wo am trüben Erlenweiher
  Dürres Rohr im Winde tönt;

Wo in schwarzen Alpenschlünden
  Dumpf der Bergstrom wiederhallt;
Wo, ein Spiel den Abendwinden,
  Welkes Laub auf Gräber wallt.
Da, da wandelt, von der Thoren
  Eitler Schimmerbühne fern,
Schwermuth! der, den du erkohren,
  Unter Ahndungsträumen, gern.

Da erfüllt ein stilles Sehnen
  Nach des Grabes Ruh' [sein]2 Herz;
Da ergießt in heissen Thränen
  Sich der Seele [banger]3 Schmerz,
Und [sein]4 Blick durchschaut die trübe
  Zukunft ruhig bis ans Grab,
Und es ruft: Gott ist die Liebe!
  Jeder Stern auf [ihn]5 herab.

Apaisement
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Là, la lueur pâle de la lune
Cligne dans l'obscurité des pins,
Là, dans le sauvage éboulis de rochers
S'entortillent les sarments de lierre ;
Là, le voile funéraire du brouillard
S'étend parmi les buissons de l'automne ;
Là, près de l'étang des aulnes
Bruissent les roseaux secs ;

Là, dans les gouffres noirs des alpes
Résonne sourdement le torrent de la montagne,
Là, le jeu du vent du soir
Agite les feuilles mortes sur les tombes :
Là, là aime à passer loin des folles chimères
Des brillantes scènes,
En proie à des songes accablants,
Mélancolie ! celui que tu as élu.

Là, l'attente sereine du repos du tombeau
Emplit son cœur,
Là se répand en larmes brûlantes
La douloureuse anxiété de son âme,
Et son regard entrevoit le morne futur,
Avec calme, jusqu'à la tombe,
Et de la-haut chaque étoile crie :
« Dieu est l'amour ! »
