Der Morgen steigt und glüht und steigt,
Und frohe Herzen beben;
Ein Tag, und überschauert schweigt
Das [trunken reiche]¹ Leben.

Und zwischen Auf- und Niedergang
Blutwellenheißes Schlagen,
Ein Hoffen tausend Leben lang,
Ein Schmerz und ein Entsagen.

Und ists nur einen Sonnenblitz,
Daß uns ein Glück bereitet,
Nur einen kurzen Sattelsitz,
Daß Freude uns begleitet:

Freiweg durchs Leben! Sprung und Sporn!
Und Schwert und Schlacht und Scherben,
Und Glück und Tück und Kranz und Dorn,
Und rauscht der Tod durchs reife Korn,
Ein Lächeln noch im Sterben.

El matí creix i abrusa i creix
i els cors joiosos tremolen,
un sol dia i, esborronada, calla
la vida plena d’embriaguesa.

I entre alba i solpostada,
un batec onejant de sang calenta,
una espera que dura mil vides,
un dolor i una renúncia.

I és només un espurneig de sol
que ens dóna felicitat,
només durant una breu cavalcada
la joia ens acompanya.

Via lliure per la vida! A cavall i esperonar!
I espasa i combat i trencadissa
i joia i maldat i corones i espines,
i la mort bramula per el blat madur
i al morir, encara un somriure.
