Drei bunte Kühe in guter Ruh
Und des Nachbarn Hanne dazu,
  Traf ich heute in der Früh,
  Junghanne und ihre bunten Küh.

Das gab einen guten, glücklichen Tag.
Die Sonne auf allen Wiesen lag,
  Die ganze Welt war so bunt und blank.
  Der Hanne und ihren Kühen Dank!

Was glaubt ihr, trifft man in der Früh,
Statt der drei bunten drei schwarze Küh
  Und statt der Hanne die alte Gret?
  Der ganze Tag ist verwünscht und verweht.

i a més, Joana la veïna,
he trobat avui de bon matí,
la jove Joana i les seves vaques de colors.

Això m’ha donat un bon dia, feliç.
Tocava el sol a totes les prades,
el món sencer era ple de colors i resplendent.
Gràcies a la Joana i les seves vaques de colors!

Figureu-vos si, de bon matí,
enlloc de tres vaques de colors n’hagués trobat tres de negres
i, enlloc de la Joana, hagués trobat la Greta?
Tot el dia hagués estat maleït i desaprofitat.
