Drei bunte Kühe in guter Ruh
Und des Nachbarn Hanne dazu,
  Traf ich heute in der Früh,
  Junghanne und ihre bunten Küh.

Das gab einen guten, glücklichen Tag.
Die Sonne auf allen Wiesen lag,
  Die ganze Welt war so bunt und blank.
  Der Hanne und ihren Kühen Dank!

Was glaubt ihr, trifft man in der Früh,
Statt der drei bunten drei schwarze Küh
  Und statt der Hanne die alte Gret?
  Der ganze Tag ist verwünscht und verweht.

Et en plus la voisine Hanna,
  J'ai rencontré tôt ce matin
  La jeune Hanne et ses vaches bariolées.

Ce fut une bonne et heureuse journée.
Le soleil s'étalait sur toutes les prairies,
  Le monde entier était si bariolé et brillant.
  Merci à Hanne et à ses vaches !

Que croyez-vous, si on rencontre de bonne heure,
Au lieu de trois vaches bariolées, trois noires,
  Et au lieu de Hanne, la vieille Grete ?
  Alors la journée est exécrable et perdue.
