Guter Rath
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Sucht dich die Freude, grüsse sie,
Sie schmückt das Erdenleben;
Gib Raum ihr, doch vergiß es nie,
Daß Flügel ihr gegeben.

Und, wenn dich Leid und Weh ereilt,
Mußt sie geduldig tragen,
Und hoffen, daß die Wunde heilt
Die Hand, die sie geschlagen!

Confirmed with Gedichte von Julius Sturm, Leipzig: F.A. Brockhaus, 1850, page 154

Good advice
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
If joy seeks you, greet it,
It adorns [our] life on earth;
Make room for it, but never forget
That it has been given wings.

And when sorrow and pain catch up with you,
You must bear them with patience,
And hope that the wound shall be healed
By the hand that dealt the blow!
