Komm, düstre Brise, die mich flackern lässt wie eine Flamm’, vom Winde trunken! In dich, O Tod, möcht ich mich breiten, erlöschen und mich lösen; nach dir sich meine Seele sehnt! Mächtiger Gott, dem meine Seele harrt mit Liedern und mit Liebeslachen. Komm, breche mich wie eine Blum’ aus Schaum, wie eine Sonnenblüte auf dem Kamm der Wogen, der die Nacht die Blütenblätter raubt, erloschen in der Finsternis, und die im Weltraum sich entfaltet. Wie einen Wein, der feurig ist und kostbar, aus goldener Amphore lass meine Seele sich ergießen in deine Tiefen, auf dass mit ihrem Wohlgeruch die dunkle Erde sie erfüllt und auch der Toten Odem.
