by Nikolaus Lenau (1802 - 1850)
Translation by (Claude Adhémar) André Theuriet (1833 - 1907)

Nocturne
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
La lune luit parmi les branches
Sur la calme fraîcheur des eaux;
Elle mêle ses roses blanches
Aux longs cheveux verts des roseaux.

Là-haut, dans la nuit qui se lève,
Les cerfs cheminent à pas lents ;
Un oiseau léger comme un rêve
S'enfonce dans les joncs tremblants.

Je marche en pleurant, tête basse,
Et dans l'intime reposoir
De mon cœur, ton souvenir passe,
Doux comme un Angélus du soir.
