Estas placenteras armonías
que a mi alrededor los pájaros
van templando al despuntar el día
son, creo yo, deseos ardientes de amor;
son penas y tormentos;
y no obstante regocijan a las selvas y los cielos
con su dulce endecha.
¡Ah! Si pudiese también yo
tan dulcemente lamentarme
por estas colinas solitarias y serenas, 
de tal modo que a aquella, cuyo placer sólo deseo,
le agradase mi llanto,
yo ansiaría, sólo por su deleite,
que fueran eternos los llantos míos.
