Your shining eye watches the wall;
my feeble eye is fixed on a book.
You rejoice when your claws entrap a mouse;
I rejoice when my mind fathoms a problem.
Pleased with his own art
Neither hinders the other;
Thus we live ever
without tedium and envy.

Chacun a on travail à faire chaque jour :
Pour toi, c'est chasser, pour moi, étudier.
Ton œil brillant regarde le mur ;
Mon faible œil est fixé sur un livre.
Tu te réjouis quand tes mâchoires attrapent une souris ;
Je me réjouis quand mon esprit sonde un problème.
Enchanté par son art
Aucun ne gêne l'autre ;
Ainsi nous vivons toujours
Sans ennui ni jalousie.
