by Adolf Böttger (1815 - 1870)

Die Nachtigall saß im Laub und sang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Die Nachtigall saß im Laub und sang
Von Lieb' und Liebeswonne,
Die Blumen öffneten bei dem Klang
Des Auges verliebte Sonne.

Und unter dem Blüthenbaum küßt' ich Dich,
Worüber Du lachend erschrocken,
Es flochten die Zweige Dir feierlich
Den bräutlichen Kranz in die Locken.

Und als die Blumen verwundert sahn,
Wie ich Dich selig umschlungen,
Hat schöner ihr Auge sich aufgethan,
Die Nachtigall süßer gesungen.

About the headline (FAQ)

Confirmed with Gedichte von Adolf Böttger, Dritte vermehrte Auflage, Leipzig: Otto Klemm, 1847, page 39

Note: there is a typo in the score for von Kolb: stanza 3, line 1, word 6 is "seh'n" instead of "sahn".
