Verlaß mich nicht! du, die mich nun...
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG

Do not forsake me
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Do not forsake me! you who now guides me
Everywhere my feet shall henceforth take me,
From morning until the stars rise for me,
And who accompanies me through the night in my dreams.

Do not forsake me! you who gave me rest,
Gave me peace after all toil and hastening,
The echo of my joys, my lamentations,
The quiet sigh that slips from out my breast.

A miracle has led you to me,
My morning star after long, dark benightment,
My evening star upon the dark horizon.

As a wanderer, close to perishing,
Finds his eyes touched by a light, a beam of hope,
Thus you came, when I was almost past all hope.

Translated titles:
"Sonett" = "Sonnet"
"Verlass mich nicht" = "Do not forsake me"
