Guten Morgen, große
Language: German (Deutsch)

Guten Morgen, große,
Goldne Sonn' am Himmel,
Die hier einsame Braut bescheinst!
Schön willkommen, weiße
Wall'nde Meeresnebel,
Die hier einsame Braut umhaucht!
Froher grüßt' ich, große,
Goldne Sonne, dein Leuchten,
Wärst du ein Harnisch, golden und hell.
Schöner willkommen wär't ihr,
Wall'nde Meeresnebel,
Kämt ihr als Segel von der See.
Gedulde dich! Zum Gruß
Golden wird Harnisch leuchten,
Aus schimmerndem Helme Liebe schau'n,
Weiße Segel werden
Wall'n am Meeresstrande,
Heimholend die schöne Heldenbraut.
Jäger verliert wohl Fährte
Fluchtig niedern Wildes,
Nicht die Tritte des schönsten Reh's im Tann;
Leichtlich löscht bey Helden
Liebe niedrer Frauen[,]
Doch Gluth für hohe Schönheit glimm't fort.
Guten Morgen, große,
Goldne Sonn' am Himmel,
Die hier einsame Braut bescheinst!
Schön willkommen, weiße,
Wall'nde Meeresnebel,
Die hier einsame Braut umhaucht!

Aslaug’s morning song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Good morning, great
Golden sun in the sky,
Which shines down upon this solitary bride!
A warm welcome to you, white
Rolling sea-fog,
Which wafts about this solitary bride!
More happily would I greet, great
Golden sun, your radiance,
If you were a harness, golden and bright.
I would bid you a warmer welcome,
Rolling sea-fog,
If you approached as a sail from the sea.
Patience! To greet you,
The harness shall shine in gold,
From the shimmering helmet love shall gaze forth,
White sails shall
Flutter at the seashore,
Leading home the beautiful bride of the hero.
A hunter may rapidly lose
The track of base wildlife,
But not the steps of the most beautiful deer in the forest;
For heroes, the love of low women
Is easily extinguished[,]
But the fervour for lofty beauty glows on and on.
Good morning, great
Golden sun in the sky,
Which shines down upon this solitary bride!
A warm welcome to you, white
Rolling sea-fog,
Which wafts about this solitary bride!
