Nur Raum -- und wird es leer,
Dann ist das arme Herze
Auf einmal centnerschwer!

When many dwell therein,
It is and remains light!
 
But if for a single person alone
It has room -- and it becomes empty,
Then the poor heart is
Suddenly as heavy as lead.
