Dem hohen Kaiser-Worte treu,
Rief Joseph seinen Heeren:
Sie eilen flügelschnell herbei,
Voll Durst nach Sieg und Ehren.

Gern zieht man ja dem Vater nach,
Der seine Kinder liebet
Und sorgt, daß sie kein Ungemacht,
Selbst nicht Gefahr betrübet.

Wo sie erschienen, fanden sie
Von Speis und Trank die Fülle;
Und lohnt nicht schon des Helden Müh
Oft Dank und guter Wille?

Doch mehr als alles dieses stählt
Der Männer Brust zum Streite
Der Trostgedanke, daß ins Feld
Gott selber sie geleite.

Bei uns wird jeder Bruder steh'n,
Der Recht und Menschheit schützet,
Denn ihre Wohlfahrt zu erhöh'n,
Ist unser Schwert gewetzet!

Drum, tapfre Streiter, kämpft mit Mut
Um eure Ehrenkronen!
Gott selbst wird euer Heldenblut
An seinem Thron belohnen.

Bij het vertrek naar het slagveld

Zijn hoge keizerswoord getrouw
Riep Joseph op zijn legers:
Zij ijlen pijlsnel naderbij,
Vol dorst naar eer en zege.
 
Graag trekt men met de vader op,
Die veel houdt van zijn kind’ren
En zorgt dat hen geen ongemak,
Zelfs geen gevaar zal hind’ren.
 
Waar zij verschenen kregen zij
Veel drank en heel veel spijzen;
En is een held al vaak niet blij
Met dank en eerbewijzen?
 
Maar meer nog dan dit alles staalt
De mannen voor het strijden
De troostgedachte, dat naar ’t veld
God zelf hen zal geleiden.
 
Met ons zal elke broeder zijn
Die ‘t mensenrecht verdedigt,
Want voor hun welvaart staan wij pal,
Is scherp ons zwaard gesnedigd.
 
Dus, dapp’re strijders. vecht met moed
Om eer en zegekronen!
God zelf zal dan uw heldenbloed
Straks bij zijn troon belonen.
