Der Herbst will gar nichts taugen.
Ach, du bist ein schönes Ding,
Frühling!3
Ueber allen Zauber Frühling."

Das zierliche Kind, wie's vor mir schwebt!
Aus Lilien und Rosen zart gewebt,
Mit Augen gleich den Sternen; -
"Blüht mir dein holdes Angesicht,
Dann mag, fürwahr ich zage nicht,
Der Mayen sich entfernen.
Färbet nur des Lebens Trübe
Liebe:

Ella saltironejava amb mi a les verdes planades
i contemplava els til·lers esmorteïts
amb tristos ulls d’infant;
“Silencioses les fulles han caigut,
la tardor ha arrabassat les flors,
no serveix per a res la tardor.
Ai, tu ets una cosa formosa,
primavera!
La primavera per damunt tot encanteri.”

La xamosa criatura, com es mostra davant meu!
Delicadament engalanada amb lliris i roses,
amb ulls com estrelles; --
“El teu rostre encisador floreix per a mi,
llavors, en veritat i sense cap dubtança,
el maig es pot retirar.
Només acoloreix les tenebres de la vida
l’amor:
l’amor per damunt tot encanteri.”
