Abend in Lans
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE ITA
Wanderschaft durch dämmernden Sommer
An Bündeln vergilbten Korns vorbei.
Note: this is the second version of the poem (2. Fassung)

Evening in Lans
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Wandering through a gloaming summer
past sheaves of yellowèd corn. Beneath limewashed arches,
where the swallow flew in and out, we drank fiery wine.
Splendid: o sadness and crimson laughter.
Ev’ning and the somber scents of the green
cool down with wafts our foreheads, aglow.
Silvery waters trickle over the steps of the wood,
the night and speechless a life, unremembered.
Friend; the leafy paths to the village.
